my laptop is going very slow at the moment
trying to do a recovery with disc
put disc in drive
turned on laptop
pressed f12
all that happens
f2 keeps flashing at bottom of screen
help please

don't quite follow

of late the two recovery options I'm aware of are the recovery partition .... and the recovery disk

the recovery partition
start the machine and press whatever f button it says in the manual
f8 or f2 are favourites
it's a little tricky getting the timing right ...

the recovery disk
normally it's a bootable disk
sometimes it will say press any key ...
sometimes it just boots ... and shows a menu

what make model and os are you using

Or you could try & work out why it is running so slow & maybe try to fix that ?
