Dull screen on laptop

Does anyone know how I can brighten the screen on my laptop. My brother has lent me his spare monitor and it has a lovely bright screen compared to my laptop. Thanks Kath.

Look for a couple of keys with little pictures of suns on them as well as the normal symbol and then hold down the FN key and press these to adjust the brightness.

Thanks chuck, it is a lot better but not quite as good, but my laptop is a few years older than the monitor. Kath.

Different laptops have different screens -some have more of a matt finish, which in my opinion is easier to see in direct sunlight, and some have a glossy finish which is very reflective.

I'm not worried but I can't find any suns or even an FN key!!!

And laptop screens tend to be designed with power saving in mind whereas monitors are not so often laptop screen will not be as bright as a normal monitor even at full brightness.

craft - put your glasses on.

Different laptps use different keyboards and different ways of adjusting the brightness. You may have hot keys along the top, or may have to go through your settings to do it.

FN key will be bottom left corner of keyboard, look on f6 and f7 for the suns

chuck I see now....the print on the FN key is, for some reason fainter than on the other keys (blush)....
