tracing an old book

i have been asked by a friend to try and source a book which was written about her house. It is an old farmhose which was built in the 1800s and they are keen to trace its history. Has anyone any ideas how to go about this? We're in northern ireland by the way...

Is there a local Archive or Records Department where the house is located. Im not sure how things are organised in your area but here in Staffordshire there is an Archive "Library" in the county town run by the County Council. Yours may be worth a call.
