Can anyone tell me how I would go about getting a shower for my Mother she is eighty and on invalidity pension she only has a bath in her home and she got stuck in it the other day and could not get out fortunatly she took the phone in to the bathroom but it still took her a while to get hold of one of my sisters. It shook her up a little. Could she claim for a shower to be installed. And if so how could I go about it or who do I contact, Many thanks

This was great for a few years until a further stroke left him unable to climb into the bath , they all came back again and arranged with his agreement the insallation of a walk in shower .Th e work was done by a builder they recommended and was excellent.
Because of his financial position he was required to make a contribution to the cost involved , and this was calculated by a finance person from the local council who assessed his benefits and the modest savings he had.
He used the shower regularly without any problem.
He passed away at the end of last year at the ageof 90, and he reckoned theshower had saved him from going into residential care .He kept his independence, as a single man until the end, which was what he wanted.

Ann, my friends wife is terminally ill with cancer, and the various people from the social services have been absolutley brillant, coming out to the house and not only explaining in detail the things she can claim for but filling in the associated paper work and arranging for things to be done. I've no doubt that if you enquire you will find that somebody equally helpfull will come out to see you and help sort out your problem
