I work at the Inland Revenue. It has recently merged with Customs and Excise. The two organisations are now supposedly as one, with the same corporate logos, intranet, etc.

But, the pay scales are different(i.e IR staff get less than C&E staff at the same grade).Anyone know if/when they will be standardised?

As you are aware the Govt merged the 2 departments to save money. Some one has to lose their pay advantage in this. I dont think the erstwhile HM C& E will agree to a reduction in payscales and the govt will shy away from offering inland revenue a rise to standardise the pay scales. What will happen will be a fudge. They will impose something in the long run, the unions will make a lot of noise about it and call for strikes etc but the inevitable will happen and the changes will be steamrolled....same old story. HM C& E were well shafted a few years ago when their unions agreed to a consolidation of pay. They are still ruing that day.
