Video needs rotating

My son has sent me a CD with a load of short video clips taken of the grandchildren.
He has used the Easyshare system to record them.
I have tried to play them back using VLC.
They play back fine, but some of them are sideways on and I don't know how to rotate them.
I would be grateful of any advice as I want to take them to great - nanna tomorrow

Chris,
Thanks for the 2 links, I have tried them both, without success. The first one said the videos could not be imported and the second said I didn,t have the necessary coder to play the clips.
As a matter of interest, when I showed the clips to great -nanna, I turned my laptop sideways, so she could view them, would this do any harm to the laptop?

Try to download some media codec pakes. You can download k-lite media codec pack:

or buy Apple's Quicktime Pro (quite cheap), it might do the job depending on the format of the video.
