Why does grass cut with a petrol lawnmower appear to smell different to that which is cut by an electric mower? The petrol cut seems to smell more like that fresh cut lovely grass smell, not apparent when using an electric machine.......

It's all to do with the exhaust fumes.
mmm, I know what you mean, lovely isn't it? I don't know the reason, maybe petrol mowers, being more powerful, chop the grass more & release more smell?

oops, lots of 'mores' there...I should have said chop the grass finer. :o)

Thanks, I wondered whether it might be the exhaust. I guess we'll never know for sure and, ahem, I suppose there are more important things to concern ourselves with!...
petrol lawnmowers actually cut the grass better than electric ones which tend to snap the blades of grass, this releases different amounts of enzymes which alter the smell
