Gravity effecting television

Random question but does gravity have any effect on a television image? I think not but a strange friend thinks it does

I do not think it would have a perceptible effect. A TV based on a cathode ray tube works by firing electrons at a phosphorescent coating on the screen using electromagetic fields. The EM force experienced by the electrons is many, many orders of magnitude stronger than the gravitational force and would completely overwhelm it over the relatively short distance involved (from electron gun to screen).

I think your friend may be thinking of magnetic force. Put a strong enough magnet near a CRT screen, and it goes weird.

It definitely does. We haven't got any in our house and the bloody set floats about, sometimes on its side and others upside down. It's a real pain.

Your friend is confusing the earth's magnetic and gravitational fields. Some high spec screens actually include adjustment circuits to compensate for the location of the set in relation to the earth's magnetic field.

thats why he is a strange friend there could be some minimal effect perhaps based on the aerth pole but unlikely cause we r talking like 10.000-25.000 volts that don't realy see the weat effect of the north pole maybe there r some rare circustances nearer the pole he hasn't just got bach from a mission in the artic has he ?
