Computers (using Windows anyway) automatically adjust for BST and GMT when the clocks change. So when you did it manually you probably effectively advanced it 2 hours.
I'm guessing your on Vista (as XP has no time sync feature)

Try using a different time server to sync with, if I remember right it defaults to time.windows.com which is known to be a bit flaky.

try one of these instead

http://www.timetools.co.uk/ntp-servers/ref/ntp -servers-uk.htm
chuck? - xp no time sync????? - see the "internet time" tab

the best time server for uk (xp and vista) is
uk.pool.ntp.org

make sure the time zone is set to gmt and tick the automatically adjust for daylight saving
Doh...

too much time using only domained XP machines and linux :)
lol

did you sort the off switching server?
Well it's not done it since, so either yes but don't know what was done to fix it, or it's one of those that mysteriously fixes it's self :)

ac in my post i said that was all done that u suggested. its not a problem doing it manually, but wondered why this has occurred
sandmaster if i do correct it with internet time update now it still say 1 hour in front i
thanks for all answers
saw what you said - no reflection I just always try to cover the full process for anyone else

so have you tried an alternative time server?

just overtype the adress into the field
then use the update now button
You must make sure you set your time zone correctly to get the computer to show the correct time. I don't know where in the world you are, but right click on the clock and choose "adjust date/time" and then choose the time zone tab and set to correct time zone - in my case GMT London.
Once this is correct update your time and it should be right for where you live. It automatically puts clock forward/back 1 hour at the appropriate time of year.
