MPs will now sit in the Commons for 143 working days in the year to the end of October, compared to 150 during the previous 12 months.

How much longer are we to put up with these waste of space people in Westminster?

Do others agree that the politicians should be working longer, seeing that the country is in such a mess?

Or maybe we do not need the very large number of MPs that we now have?

How can we get them to do as we want, not like they wish?

Are you sure AOG, just take a random look into the House on any day and see how many MPs turn up. Most people have the parliament channel on their freeview box or sky dish. PMQs is the only time you get a full house and this is only on for 1/2 an hour when the house rapidly empties after.
It is not possible to judge whether politicians are working merely on their attendance in the House, rov1200. Much of Parliaments work is done in committees and many MP's attend these rather than sit and listen to discussions in the main chamber.

rov is perfectly right, only a very small number actually sit in the 'House'.

But julnar is also correct, a large amount of their work is carried out in committees.

But what is also correct and that is, there a far too many MPs, and their holidays are far too long.
Gordon Brown has taken some important steps today. He proposes that MPs should only be paid for attending whether in committees or in the house and a vote will be taking by MPs next week.

Do turkeys vote for Xmas?

At least the voting will show up the shirkers!
