I have a little-used hotmail account. I've just received this email: "Dear Windows Live User,
We are contacting you regarding your communication preference settings for Windows Live and MSN.
Currently, your settings do not allow Microsoft to send you promotional information or survey invitations about Windows Live and MSN. We would like to communicate important product updates to you, so if you would like to change your settings, please visit your account profile here to change your preferences.
Sincerely, The Windows Live Team "
The reason I have the settings as they are is I do not want spam!
I was wondering whether it was phishing though looks genuine enough. (But I guess most phishing does.)
It comes from communications_msn_cs_enuk@microsoft.windowslive.com and if I were to follow the link it would take me to this page: https://account.live.com/marketingpreferences.aspx?mkt=en-us&%24ru=%2C&id=9&vv=650&lc=1033 which is exactly the same page as I would get if I were to go through the links from my genuine hotmail account.
I did mark it as "phishing scam" (which is supposedly then reported back to msn?)
I would somehow like to give them the message that this is totally unacceptable and made me very angry.
