win 2000 ...mp3 bit rate is only 56k cant seem to change it!

Not too familiar with win 2000 ...am trying to copy music from my audio cd onto the machine using the option on the win 2000 media player....but it only offers a bit rate of 56k...do I need to add extra software to raise the rate to 128?

Also haave existing mp3s from another computer which shows the track title fine on Winamp but not on the media player in win2000 is there a fix for this?

By default, windows 2000 only supported up to 56kbps. To record at more than this required a license to be paid to Frauenhofer, the inventors of mp3. You can buy software to do this. Or you can look at LAME which will do the job. Not sure if it's pluggable into WMP though.

To rip your stuff, just download Audiograbber (with the Lame encoder, which is very good).

Alternatively, download iTunes and use that to rip and play your stuff.
