Owing to the risk of importing disease into the European Union, it is forbidden to bring meat, meat products, milk and dairy products into the EU, with the exception of:
Powdered milk and food for infants, and special food required for medical reasons provided that the product does not require refrigeration before opening and it is a commercial brand product with the packaging still intact.
Personal packages containing meat, meat products, milk and dairy products through specifically-designated EU entry points, provided they have obtained the necessary documentation from the official veterinary services of the country of origin. The goods must be declared and the corresponding documentation must be presented on arrival at the EU border control for veterinary control.
In all other cases these products must be handed over when crossing EU borders to be destroyed.

CAJ!'s answer is irrelevant, since it relates to entering the EU. If you're in the UK, you're already in the EU and you're free to move all foodstuffs across national borders unless temporary restrictions (such as those which used to relate to BSE) apply.
There are currently no such restrictions, so the information provided by Bournemouth Airport is correct. However, if their security staff are being particularly strict, your sarnies shouldn't contain any mayonnaise or ketchup, since that would breach the security rules on 'liquids'.
