Ok, I said I was just gona answer and not post 'cos I'm invisible, but I am a inquisitive owld bat, so here goes.
After this afternoons budget, should expats living in warmer climes, still be entitled to cold weather payments, such as 250 per household for pensioners?
or do you think, yes they should, theyv'e contributed to the countries economy before .....lying on sun-soaked beaches...lol

squid air con generally has heat too.

i had my fan heater on a dozen times this winter.

one night the temperature dropped to 15 degrees.

i had the heater on and 2 blankets.

????d t h ????
leggy....yes we have A/C/heater units in all rooms as well, but tend to have the CH on as it heats the water as well.
calefaccion central (CH) and so people have to rely on poxy little electric heaters which can be very expensive to run.

way back up the threa

squid open ur eyes

well im happily celebrating a rent cut !!!!

even tho the elcricity prices in spain have gone up 15% in the last year i got a 15% rent cut

im offfski for a bit
Hiya Joy
I don't see why expats should'nt get the heating allowance - if they have paid their dues over the many years of working and contributing towards Britain.

Lets face it all those entering the UK, bleeding the system dry, never having paid a penny over the years have no qualms in claiming anything !!

welll the old duffers sit here in the reef boasting about how they get so many hundred and theyre in their 80s and aint worked since jesus was hangin on the cross.

btw

when they were earning two and thruppence and paying a penny a week into the system.
how much do you reckon thats worth now?

its merely booze money i reckon the old folk stuck in the cold are more deserving.
give them double and cut it to the idle boozing rich geriatrics

im deffo gone now

right then, that's sorted,
ex pat's should get a winter fuel payment ,plus an allowance to run the air con in summer,
NoMercy....leggy has just told me what CC stands for.

Now could these people living in Spain not being able to afford CH, still not afford CH in UK. If the answer is no, then it doesn't matter where they live, they could not afford CH.
Yes many of the villas and farmhouses in Spain are old and cold, but before you emigrate to another country, one has to research that country otherwise you would be out of the frying pan into the fire.
logic...that is not like you....bloody stupid answer.
why is it stupid then SQAD ?
Because NOBODY is advocating payment by the state for rinning A/C during the summer.

We were talking about the WINTER allowance.
yes i know that, but there's no harm in doing a bit of stirring, is there,?
logic....LOL...you are one Fisherman's Friend LOL LOL
Ha Ha, i don't think you are going to let that one drop,
logic...NEVER ...a true classic and timing was perfect.
I think they've paid enough in so why shouldn't they?

I know some perks are conditional on you living in the UK but this isn't and as lots of countries do get cold in the winter .

I think my take on it has to be a positive one, as DEN has said, the ones who sit around and have never put into the system, get benefits for doing it, so I think it is right and proper that those who choose to retire abroad after paying their taxes, should reap the benefit of doing so, I raised this point because I had an "altercation" about it with someone in our local, I wanted to see what the groundswell of opinion was on it and it appears most advocate it, I do.
It's a bit rough on some who have worked for years and paid taxes, and don't get the winter fuel allowance as the countries in which they have retired are not included in the agreement.
Question Author
That is a good question Shutz, how are these countries defined, at a glance I would probably have said "Commonwealth" but Cyprus, Canada, Spain, Can anyone tell me , I am curious now
Joy. My sister lives in South Africa, and doesn't receive the annual increases on her UK pension in the way that retired people living in the UK do. And certainly doesn't receive a winter fuel payment, and the winters there are very cold. I believe there are two other countries where UK citizens are treated in the same way, but I'm not sure which two. Interesting isn't, and it seems grossly unfair.
