Straw Dogs v. The Wicker Man

Settle a domestic argument: which of these films is fab and which is a load of old pants?

Alphabetically, Straw Dogs comes before The Wicker Man As for "Mainland copper set on fire" versus "Yokels being shot by American outsider", I just hope I haven'r spoilt the endings for potential viewers..

I think they are both fab, and they share something in common - a theme of an outsider entering a closed community and being seen as a threat to its equilibrium. The threat is sorted out in different ways, with different results, but they remain powerful pieces of work, shocking in their time, and still effective today.

Both good movies about closeknit communities. Add American Werewolf in London...

I enjoyed both films. The American effort 'Deliverance' was also a film which had a similar creepy effect on me.

Thanks all. I think The Wicker Man is a great movie, but, try as I might, can't take Straw Dogs seriously. Mr Ravenhair, on the other hand, thinks Wicker is laughable but SD is truly creepy. The argument continues . . .
