I am in the process of a mortgage application. I have a large default of 6000 on my credit file which was a car finance deal that went wrong in 2001. I have been advised by my mortgage broker that Abbey will provide me with a mortgage even with the default. I have been credit checked and approved with them 3 times now. Can they still refuse me a mortgage even though I have been approved 3 times?
Yes, because until you sign up to an agreement it isn't binding, all offers usually have a "valid for" clause.
But if they have done it 3 times then it is unlikely they will change their mind if everything is else is the same, but they are more than entitled to if they want.
they have approved you 3 times, and will stick to what they have offered, dont get too many searches on your credit file, any above 6 searchs in 6 months will make lenders uneasy making them reject you
