school in spain

i would like to know if i can put my 2 children in school in spain. or do i have to become a spanish citzen?
i was hoping to travel around in my camper van starting with spain. but do not want to become a spanish citizen. im am from the uk and have 4 children 2 of which are primary school age?
is it possible to do that and also do they have english speaking schools?

You've got exactly the same right to send your children to a school in Spain, while living there, as any other EU citizen has.

However, your chances of finding a school teaching in English (other than within the private sector) are just the same as someone from Madrid trying to find a school teaching in Spanish here. i.e. they're non-existent. If your children attend a school in Spain, they'll be taught in Spanish (or in Catalan).

If you are near a major town particularly in central or southern Spain, there are many 'international schools' that cater for a variety of ex-pat children, and there are also some British schools. You may have to pay fees to attend these. In areas where there has been significant immigration, primary schools are used to catering for non-Spanish children - I recall a teacher in malaga saying he had 7 european languages in his school.
I doubt that citizenship will be an issue preventing your children from attending state school, but residence might be - if you intend moving around, will you be in one spot for a school year at a time? And if so, how will you cope with two children living permanently in a camper van?

hi thanks for your answers i will cope living in camper van with kids as buying a very large one also keeping our uk home if this does not work out we can return just doing it for a better quility of life for the kids and also yes would be stopping in one spot for about 6 months at a time comming home inbetween that period i would just like to find out about the english schools there and what fees apply and the resorts they are in if you can help thanks

Expect to pay at least �4000 per year, per child, to go to an international school.

For any school you will need to produce:
Their vaccination papers
An empadronamiento from the Town Hall - a piece of paper that says you live there
Passports (and official Spanish translations)
Details of your Spanish bank account
Proof of address
Convalidation - proof of your childrens' education, a stamped form from the Department of Education, which can take months to get.

Enrolment is usually in May, for inclusion in the September intake, but can be at any time whilst the school is open.

thanks ethel. so what your saying is a cant do what i was hoping to do. i didnt want to become a spanish citizen all i wanted to do was travel with the kids, puting them in a school 6- 12 months at a time then returning to our home in the uk

You have to prove residency and I can't see why you would be against getting your residencia - you can still retain your UK passport.
