Christmas In The Good Old Days

Recently a question was directed to the ladies, asking whether they would 'shop' their individual men if they knew that he had committed murder(s).
A hard question for men to answer would be: if there was a great fire, or some huge accident, and only one life could be saved, that of his wife or that of his child, which would he choose?
I accept that it might be unanswerable. I ask it because I have long reasoned that 'blood is thicker than...' Children are of a father's flesh and blood whereas wives, even though they might be much loved, are a separate individual, not an actual blood relative. Views from non-parents and/or singles welcome!

Much as I love my 'other half' dearly, I couldn't live with myself knowing the pain my adorable and innocent little 7 year old son would go through, and thinking how the people he loved would abandon him.
Since becoming a father, news of the death of a child (murder or accident) upsets me deeply. At least an adult has had the chance of life, and would accept the prospect of death better knowing this.
What a gloomy subject!!
