Hi, I have received a very persistant virus/trogen/whatever, via an email, that persists in terminating my dial up connection and redialing another number, corrupting my profile information in the process. No anti-virus software I have picked it up, or seems able to remove it. I have the number this application is dialing, (from my phone bill), and I got thinking, it made me so angry that these gits can do this and get away with all the trouble and expense this has caused me, is there nowhere I can report them to to get them into trouble, as I said, I have their number, but what can I do with it?

Report it to BT though I guess it's an off-shore number so they won't be able to do much. BT can block the number from being dialled I think. The computer will need to be sorted by you though.
It looks like you've got a dialler in your system. Run a good spyware programme to get rid of it. I think Ad-Aware SE Personal is the best for this. Free and easy to use.
Microsoft do a free Anti-spyware program which I have found to be excellent at detecting diallers. Its free (assuming you own a legitimate copy of Windows, if not you'll have to lie and then you'll go to hell instead of heaven and it'll all be your fault because you stole money from Bill Gates !!!!!!!!!.) Install and run, it works well as an additional scanner to Lavasoft Ad-aware or Spyware search and destroy. Hope this helps.

This useful piece of free software was released today by BT.

Thanks for those responses. I have used Ad aware, and Spy-bot, neither of them found anything!

This is a real bad one, the application 'Scvhos1at'  loads itself and does the damage, then disappears after I disconnect, therefore stopping me from deleting it.

I just thought there might be some sort of regulatory authority I could report the number to.

Pi, where would I get the Microsoft anti spyware program you mention?

This looks more like a virus than spyware, a search through Castlecops start-up listings referred me to this page.

Microsoft`s Antispyware can be found here

Thanks dodgyshirt, not sure what you meant by refering me to the Castlecops page, or why you think that is relevant to my problem?
No problem Scooby, the Castlecops website lists the majority of startup list entries deposited by various virii and malware. A search for scvhost listed the most likely culprits and provided a link through to the page I gave you.
