my workmate says the earth is SPERICAL he says this means the earth has flats on its axis,i think hes soo wrong...i mean the earth spinning on its 2 flats is ridiculous..... thx in advance and a answer asap would b greatfully appreciated

I don't know what you mean by "preferential frame" As I have said speed is only meaningful as a relative measure. Quoted speed of the same thing can be can be different depending on what you are comparing it with. Eg in a plane you walk up the aisle, your speed relative to the plane is walking pace, relative to the ground is 500mph.

Do you accept that we are travelling at 64000mph in order to orbit the sun?

Ha, I'm cracking up, you have got to be taking the P*&s. "you don't know enough......" this from someone who thinks the balcony is bending up, does not understand the train analogy, thinks the Earth is flat, thinks the sun moves at 1mph. Refuses to acknowledge the earth orbit's the sun, probably thinks the moon is made of cheese. I think I'll just have to leave you to revel in your ignorance.

Light is constant regardless of what the observer is doing, I'm not going to bother trying to explain why.

Perhaps we could use a frame of reference that is more visual and therefore, more acceptable. Unless one wishes to discount the entire period of space exploration since about 1958, all one has to do to confirm the sphericity of not only Earth but all other heavenly bodies is to inspect the literally thousands of photographs taken by many different countries space exploration efforts.  The most famous is the photograph of Earth rise, taken from the surface of the moon. Additionally, the roundness of the Earth was confirmed during an experiment in the early 1500's... rather elegant at that.  A man stands on the seashore and watches a masted sailing ship 24 feet tall sail directly away from him.  In about 9 miles the ship disappears... over the horizon!

Go ahead, Loosehead, put me out of my misery. Why is light constant no matter what the observer is doing? And which observer? If I'm on the big round sun burning my toes, is the light coming from it to earth curved, but only for me????

say why don't u go and create ur own world without relativity (admiting i'm not infored on what it is but it's satisfied science for over 50 yrs so it should run a bit longer) and so forth and guess what u may end up holding the atom bomb instead !

 

for anybody interested as i recal the earth is termed a sheroid meaning it is not a perfect sphere being "squashed" at each pole by about 21 Km and as Marge B is so well infored he/she can convert that into miles and how kind of the knowledgable sould if he acconsents to lower him/herself to such a stupid calculation having mathematically proven that eistein missed out on something

 

ps if u r unable to do the calculation i suggest u retire - my god what free info can do fancy if people beleive the trash ur putting in pubblic domain

yea making fools of ourselves. this thread is completely stupid and not realy in line with the aim of AB. frankly marge has very ignorant and impulsive reactions that lead to this row and it started because he/she didn't want to be proved wrong in any way or was under the influence of something. anyhow judging from the absence of the report post button all the posts in this have been reported making it even more stupid if i were the AB editor i would just DELETE this whole thread

2. the speed of light is constant relative to *anything*. that's how it works.
3. the ancient greeks figured the earth was round when they saw ships masts disappear on the horizon (i'm sure it was rediscovered in the 1500s :p)
4. if einstein was so wrong, why do nuclear bombs work? or are they made up too...?
