Allders guarantees

I bought an expensive television (Toshiba) from Allders a couple of years ago.  It had a one year manufacturers guarantee and an extended further three years guarantee from Allders.  As we all know, Allders is now in administration and I think all (if not most) of their shops are closed.  The television has broke down.  I called the number on the guarantee only to receive a recorded message stating that any Allders guarantee is now void.  Surely the administrators have a duty of care to customers holding this guarantee or do you think that Debenhams, who have taken over many of the shops may take responsibility?  Any suggestions for what to do next would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I have a nasty suspicion that you must join the back of the queue behind all the other creditors Binky.  People have been asking similar questions of Rover cars recently.  I found this link by doing a very basic google search...

It looks a bit complicated, but it could be possible you'll get SOME money back, at SOME point in time.  This could be years though, and the money is likely only to be a small percentage of what you are owed.  Debenhams may voluntarily take on Allders' liabilities, but you would simply have to ask them.

Do a bit more poking around yourself, then ask at the CAB.  And good luck! :-)

wants a company is in administration u are on your own, administatration is basically out of business as far as customers are concerened, its the same for MG Rover owners, there 3 year warranties are void now so if u have a problem with your brand new 7 month old car u are on your own, u need to fix it yourself at your cost.

This is one of the reasons shopping is a risky business simply as u dont know who might go bust, however thankfully very few big stores do go bust. sorry to say this but u were just unlucky that u bought it and they went under and that your telly is now broken!

oh too add, as far as your warranty is concerened any repairs u have to do that they would normally pay for is considered as someone they owe and cos the repairs are so small in cost compared to the big supply companies they owe money too, they get first dibs on whatever money is raised from selling off old stock and property, its very rare that there will be enough money raised from seeling off everything to do with alders that the lowly customers will get there money back, far too many bigger debts come first
Did you pay for this on CREDIT card (as opposed to debit card) or via a hp or loan agreement?

If so, under the Section 75 (or 57 I forget) of the Consumer Credit ACt, the credit company has equal liability with the store, and you can go to them with any warranty issues
