reporting abusive responses to threads

Hi, I notice you can report a thread but not an individual. I noticed there are one or two users answering threads by bombarding them with abusive reply's.

Can we not have a facility to report individual answers, or better still, Users?

Unfortunately beaniesq, that's up to teh Ed's discretion. If you gave all users a report button, there'd be no one left on AB.
If you feel strongly about a reply, you can use the "contact us" at the bottom of the page.

Hi Beaniesq

The difficulty is this: What you or I or indeed others find abusive may be viewed by some as exciting, valid or constructive. I agree with you entirely but it would seem the only way for the Ed. to deal with this is to remove the thread.
Hard to understand but some posters may not be aware that their postings are offensive and often they are encouraged or supported to continue in this veiw.
This is my opinion for what it's worth. I could be wrong.

the option to report individual posts was tried on AB 1.0 but was removed when we went into AB2.0 when all the sub categories and extra topics were added, it has been too easy to report answers and get them removed, it used to be 3 reports for anything abusive and the post went, then it went to 10, then they removed the option. When AB 3.0 arrives it may be simpler to identify offenders and get them slung out and barred.

Yeah, I know there's an element of objectivity required, but I just noticed we seem to have one or two complete loonies and no way of barring them or getting rid of them.

There is one reply that I saw tonight I feel strongly about (not to one of my threads, someone else's). I just thought, this is ridiculous. If I was a newbie I would be deterred from posting a thread in case I fell victim to this person or someone like him. He posted about a dozen responses on this thread getting progressively more abusive.

That's what made me ask, really. I was looking for somewhere on the site to report him and then I realised there wasn't the facility available.

I just think AB is a great community and I wouldnt want anyone to be put off posting threads on here just because we havent taken adequate measures to protect people from vindictive posts.

if you copy and paste the post in an email to the ed at
[email protected], you may get a better result.
