Statins & Grapefruit

My Dad was recently diagnosed with angina, and according to a list of good foods and bad foods, he shouldn't have grapefruit (which he has had every morning for years). Does it have a negative effect on the statins in his medication or is it for another reason. I believe that grapefruit is high in potossium. Thanks in advance.

Without using technical terms and being simplistic....grapefruit contains a chemical substance (enzyme) which acts against enzymes which breakdown statins.
Hence, if you eat grapefriut, the statins will not be broken down and their action magnified and prolonged which could br lethal.
