advertising on sky
12 Answers
does anyone else think the amount of advertising done on the sky digital channels is ridiculous. i mean a programme starts at 8pm for example and by 6 mins past there are 5 mins of adverts. and this is then repeated for every 15 mins over the hour. the discovery channels are the worst for this. i know they have to make their money but talk about putting people off watching because of the ludicrous time given for advertisements. anyone else agree?

What I've started to do, when there's a programme I want to watch virtually uninterrupted, I either pause it as it starts or just set it to record. For the first 15 minutes of the show, I go and do something else - my dishes, quick phone call, whatever. When I sit down to watch the show I can forward through the adverts and by the time the show is finished in real time I've either caught up with it or or only a couple of minutes behind.
I know, it's a bit sad, but I really hate the ads when it's a show I really enjoy LOL

To be fair - and I'm not sure why I want to be fair! - most imported US shows run for between 40 and 42 minutes these days. 20-30 years ago it was 44 to 47 minutes.
If you're running to a regimented schedule as most channels do these days, i.e. all programmes starting at x o'clock or half past x, they will naturally fill it up with ads to increase their revenue.
Bring back the old BBC1 schedule, where Mon-Fri after Nationwide you had shows starting at 7.20 and 8.10!

I think Sky is ridiculous full stop, I'm sure I wrote something about the advertising on Sky once, I want to throw the remote control at the screen, I was watching 24 the other night and there must have been ads every 7 mins, it's a joke, not only that the repeats are driving me mad, the Disney Channel, Living TV, we have all these channels and sometimes there is just nothing to watch. Yes I know I can read a book so I do.
