Off to the Vets to collect elvis...
our cat. Noticed yesterday that he was going up and down the stairs reeeeally slowly, and in a strange way, stepping down with front legs, then bunny hopping his back ones down. Was still eating, and no obvious blood or swelling, but he wasnt coming anywhere near us.
Got my OH to take him the the V.E.T today, who said he had an abcess on his shoulder, poor boy, and to leave him there to be seen to. So, just had a call, confirming abcess, its all drained and cleaned, and was luckily quite small. So, hes just there adjusting , and we can go get him in hour or two.
I'm so glad we decided to take him now before it got worse! Boys eh! Always fighting!

What a good job you decided to take him. OH's come in very useful at times, my OH was cat-sitting for our Frankie yesterday while I was at work. Frankie seems to be recovering quite well after his operation. Elvis will be ready for some tlc and cuddles when he gets home. Best wishes. Schutz.
Thanks Schuz..
I think OH thought i was being over protective, and really just took him to shut me up! Its nice to be right, but on this occassion i would happily have been proven wrong!
Not sure if he will want any fuss tonight, but i will let him have a treat of some tuna for his dinner! That cat thinks with his belly!
Glad Frankie is doing OK after his op too. The worry we go through eh!

If you hadn't been so in tune with his habits and movements it may have been days before he seemed ill enough for you to notice.
My moronic thug, Frankie, had an abscess in his face (his sister is short tempered) and he was really ill and puking-up everywhere before I noticed.
It is good that he is now on the mend. Between the other Frankie being shot and your Elvis getting beaten up it has been a tough week for pussy cats.

Thanks Wolf.. i do feel fortunate to have noticed it so early. When we picked him up, the vet said it was quite a big abcsess and that it was due to the fact he is a big bruiser that it hadnt affected him more yet. Sorry your Frankie was poorly too.
Just wondering what the best thing to do is, should we let him out? We have tried keeping the cat flap closed, but he got very distressed, and started battering it with his paws and head. Vet didnt say to keep him in, but we were just being cautious!
As for pussycats this week.. elvis being a bruiser, and the fact that the bite is on his front limb, indicates he was being an agressor... so god only knows what state the other cat is in!! Oh dear!

If you see a cat with an abscess in it bum you will be meeting Elvis's opponent.
My two are house cats so I am no expert in outdoor cats - but if he wants to go out just let him go.
My Frankie is a normal sized cat - but he isn't much of a fighter. His sister has paws like boxing gloves and she is lethal.
Long live Elvis.
