That was the day that HMS Sheffield was hit by an Exocet missile, fired from a Super Etendart of the Argentinian Air Force. My friends son, Allan, died that day. No. He was a member of the Welsh Guards on the Sir Galahad waiting to be landed when it got hit. Remembering them all and also that serve now. Please check out Help for Heroes and donate if you can.

I do remember it very well 10ClarionSt. my husband had been called back to the RAF base during his resettlement leave and placed on standby to follow (I think) the Vulcans to Asscension. I was left up in Lancashire in our new home with my 9 month old son and it was a very worrying time. Our best man had already been on his way to Asscension with his aerial erection team and after thinking we were leaving the RAF life after 12 years (for my husband that is) he was right back there and facing the first active duty of his career. I thank God that in the end they did not send him and he was stood down and came home later in the month. Our best man was on asscension for months.

It seems such a lifetime away now but I know the families of those who lost their lives doing their duty will be remembering it as if it were yesterday.
