Why do many cobblers also cut keys?

Click here for a web-page from someone who wondered about the same question. However, it seems the only answer he could come up with was really "for economic reasons". In other words, carrying out only one of these trades doesn't bring in enough money!
It does occur to me that both businesses involve the use of similar buffing/polishing machines, so perhaps the combination does make sense.
