ages ago i heard something on radio 4's book at bedtime or latebook perhaps. i think it was a piece of prose about the life of a carbon atom and went along the lines of ... and i was rained out of the sky onto a blade of grass, then eaten by a sheep and spend several days being digested then was pood out and fertilised a tree, etc etc. what is the correct title and who is it by?
An essay by Primo Levi, an Italian chemist, who in his book The Periodic Table sets himself to imagine the life of a carbon atom. This was he says, his first literary dream that came to him during his imprisonment in Auschwitz.
