i need to have my wisdom tooth out too, i have been referred to the dental hospital to get it removed. i was told that the wisdom tooth is embedded under the gum. my dentist only found out after looking at the scan. =( i am dreading it too, i am not looking forward to opening the letter of when i will need to see them. i really dont know what the procedures are .... i read about it on the website and it sounds Really scary ... i might be put off going to have it removed!!!

i really dont know what we should do... shall we run away from it? ha ha!
I'm really scared of the Dentist, so going to the dental hospital is 100 times worse! i hate it when they inject in to the gum... and it just feels like its coming out back of my head, that drilling and scraping etc .....the pain etc.....oh i dont want to think about it! :(

I kept getting infections round my wisdom teeth so ended up having one taken out in the chair.
I'd always had a fear of having a needle in my gum but I was in so much pain (and in the middle of my final degree exams) I had it done under local and it was fine.
I ended up having the other three taken out under general at a clinic a few months after.
Easy for me to say though as I've never been scared of or had a problem with dentists etc...

If you have an infection then that will have to be sorted first. But yes you can be referred by your dentist to go to the hospital to have it removed, but that takes time to organise, the dentist can give you a tablet to relax you before you go in to be sedated, the actual process of removal is very good these days, you hardly feel that they've removed the offending tooth, they are very well trained these days, believe me!!
I think that the Dentists should be able to grab you as you walk down the street, whip you into the surgery and take the tooth out. It is the anticipation and dread that makes it such a horrible event.
I hate going to the dentist but our practice is an expanding one with loads of youngish dentists - they know that we are terrified. Mine says things like"you've been very brave" and it helps.
Good luck. I had wisdom tooth pain and went to the dentist - he used something like a pair of pliers to yank it out. It was a bit rough - but the pain had been SO bad that I was relieved to get rid of it.
