start by explaining from now on in the rule in the house is no x box until homework is done. Tell him you realise this is hard but this is how it is. If he objects just ignore his efforts to hijack and keep reminding him when your homework is done then you can have your x box. Dont allow yourself get drawn in to the arguement and walk away if you need to remain calm. He will soon get the message

Do you know what i think, gbg? I think Elvis is half right on this one. I reckon that your son'll do it HIS way, because I know that you're a good mum by the way you've stayed in and cared for your children. It has no reflection on the way you've treated him.
When he's in a mood to listen, tell him calmly that you're very proud of him, and just to do his best. What'll be, will be. It doesn't matter if he ends up serving behind a bar if that makes him happy. Too many people strive for more and more these days. Money's necessary, but there are other things in life. If your boy turns out decent - you've made a fine job. x

gbg dont worry so much about school let his teachers deal with his behaviour thats there job . Focus on his homework and reward him with lots of praise. It will be tough for him if he gets in trouble in school for acting out and then gets it again when he comes home. Try talking to him about what is going on for him at school but be supportive also. Perhaps he acts taht way to fit in . Make sure he knows how much you love him and care for him. You have it harder being mom and dad. Is there any other male relatives who could have a chat with him
