Firstly, I have to sing the praises of IndieSinger, who taught me how to do this image thing!

Can anyone please tell me what this tree is?

tree1

It was already established in my garden when I bought my house (1993) and it has grown by almost a third with no help whatsoever, although it does need pruning every year. I'm thinking of moving though, and I'd like to take cuttings so that I can grow a new one (or ten) because I love it so much.

This is a close-up:

in case it helps. If I can just find out what it is, I can go to my local garden centre for advice, but if anyone with green fingers can help anyway who knows what the tree is ...

Thank you.

Does it have small yellow ball like flowers? If so it may be a Mimos, also called a Black Wattle, which is originally from Australia.
Latin name Acacia decurrens

Hi spudqueen,

Thank you so much for your quick replies! It has very small pink flowers later in the year (summer time-ish), if that's any help!

Or might it be a tamarisk? -http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/plants/plant_finder/plant_pages/11330.shtml

I have two in the garden - one flowers now and one later in the summer.  Both have little pink flowers and feathery, upward pointing leaves like your picture.  Every so often, in autumn, I hack them back and they are so appalled that they grow twice as fast the next year!

I think that could be the one, mrs.pudding. Now that I have a name for it, I know what to ask for in the garden centre! Thank you.
