In answer to Icey and pink......those who have someone loving and dependable in their lives are always much more positive about these things. Whereas those who have been disappointed or let down find it far more difficult to be trusting. Those lost loves may just serve to make a person wary of it happening again....particularly if you'd put all your trust into them to start with. I am not saying that it is not possible to love and be loved again.....but there is an awareness that it won't be easy.
True, pasta, but I don't know one person who hasn't been let down or felt the pain of a lost love in the past. When trust's been destroyed, it's sometimes hard to give that again, but it's the person's own self which stops them from moving on.
Love isn't all a bed of roses, and someone'd have to be very naive to believe that nothing could ever go wrong. The romantic part of ourselves HOPES that it's forever, but in reality 1 in 3 marriages end in divorce, so you can never get too complacent. My own opinion is that when one door closes, another opens, but not everyone can believe that. Break ups usually cause sadness or acrimony to at least one party, but it's up to the individual to forge on to new horizons. The trouble is, depression can set in, and unless it's treated, this can remain with someone for the rest of their lives and blight any future relationships.

Those who lose partners in death also get lonely but looking for 'replacements' is not the option for all. Being lonely for the dec'd partner is not compensated by children, relatives & friends.
Adjusting to lone living & quietness of home, less phone calls/invites etc is difficult. Positive effort is necessary to fill time. I find websites great for communication with 'no strings' and you mix with all age sorts!
