My wife has come across this gambling method that looks too good to be true so must be: http://www.advantagecasino.webs.com/
I know it can't work but find it difficult to explain why.
Any thoughts?

It works up to a point and you spend a lot of time thinking that you have found a way to make money. Then comes a time there is a long run of one colour or the other and you run out of money to wager. Been there done that!
It does work in most cases. To try it out, use a pack of playing cards. Remove the top 4 cards from each suite of the pack to leave 36, and add the joker to represent the roulette wheel '0'. Shuffle and deal, and watch how your imaginary black and red bets go.
The problems are - house limit, as Squarebear says, and house rules, as mentioned on the web page.
If the house limit prevents you from placing your next bet, and you start again from scratch, you'll spend a very long time in trying to recoup your loss.

This is the oldest one in the book, it can work if you have no limit on the table and unlimited cash available.
I have personally seen 13 blacks in a row, now imagine that you are betting 1, on red, by spin 14 you will have wagered 16383. The limit would have been reached long ago, but even if there is no limit you are now wagering 16382 to win 1 on an even money shot (ignoring 0 OK pedants) and the wheel has no memory!
In reality there will be a minimum bet of say 5 on the even money bets anyway, reaching the limit much quicker.
Casinos love these numpties
