Hi, I had my bellybutton pierced 3 years ago and someone recently told me that they 'grow out' by the skin between the two holes wearing away, so eventually the bar will get closer and closer to the surface of the skin and will eventually wear out. Is this true? If so, how long does it take?

Well I had mine done 9 years ago & that hasn't happened...
I've had mine since I was 18 and I am 27 now, 28 at the end of the year - same at fairy! - and mine is fine still...
it is called migrating and it does happen sometimes, it can take anytime, my girlfriend had her diath pierced which migrated in 3 weeks, it doesnt hurt, my diath is still fine
happens commonly with eyebrow piercings apparently....esp if you wear heavy metals.  The guy who did my bf's eyebrow 7 years ago was amazed when he discovered that it was still the original he had.  That said, he wears titanium in it, so that doesn't really pull at the skin at all.
I had my belly done about 9 years ago as well and nothing has happened to mine?!?!?!?!?

Nothing has happened to mine either, its fine. I had just heard this from someone and wondered if there was any truth in it, thats all!?!

Mine grew out in about 4 years. It didn't grow the whole way out but got to the stage that it had moved so much it wasn't sitting in the right place. My lip ring also grew out so that the hole on the inside was almost visible on the outside of my mouth. That took about 2 years.

Must be living up to my name - but what is a diath please?

You're not a silly moo, silly moo, I didn't know either!...so i googled & found out it's part of the ear.  Click on the link below & you'll see lots of examples:

It's fun finding out!  :o)

I had mine done some years ago and after about 2 years or so, the bar had definitely migrated closer to the surface of the skin - though still wearable.

The piercing has now closed completely as I took it out when about 6 months pregnant - almost 2 years ago !
