Lost contact list in hotmail

My contact list has disappeared from my hotmail account and spam sent to the addresses on it. Can I get the list back and what can I do about it?

I had this problem recently!
I received the spam email from my daughter, which I opened as the subject was plausible.
Next time I tried to compose a new mail,all the contacts had disappeared when I clicked on the address box plus the first letter of the person's name. I had to check in my contacts folder which still had the addresses.
Next day, all was back to normal and as far as I know no one received a virus laden email from me. Norton must have coped with it.
Needless to say, my daughter hadn't sent me that first email.
