Any ideas to prevent or mask flushed skin?
13 Answers
Hi, for the last few years I've noticed I get red flushed skin on my face, neck, chest and arms. It comes and goes at any time with no warning and has nothing to do with being an embarrassed flush as I can get it whilst sitting by myself watching the TV! Does anyone have any ideas why I get this or is there a good product to mask it? I've got a condition on my arms called keratosis pilaris and not sure if its linked in any way. I try & not let my flushed skin bother me but now a very insensitive person I work with seems to like to point it out on any occassion I get it and start asking why am I am embarrassed when I can safely say I hadn't even noticed myself getting flushed until they pointed it out & now I am so fed up with this person I would love to find a product to help conceal the flushes and shut them up. Thanks to anyone with any ideas

I'm just guessing here, but I think it might be worth going to the Dr about this. It could be related to a hormone inbalance, even if you are young.
I think it's definitely worth having it checked out by a dr, but in the meantime, try taking some Omega 3 fish oil capsules. There are lots of varieties available. Omega 3 is very balancing for the hormones and also has been shown to eliminate keratosis in recent studies.
But still see a dr about the flushing!

My son gets a really red face and its associated with his acne which he is on medication for, last month i got him some 'Clinique'- treatment for red skin they have a range of anti red treatment, I got him a months pack of cleanser, moisturiser and a grenn cover up cream. The green cream does hide the redness and the other stuff is actually making his face look less red it cost 37 for the month, got it on line on the Clinique site, its made a big difference he's only 17 and got to the stage where he didn't want to go out. His dermatologist just said keep using it its good stuff, they can't perscribe anything thats any better. Hope this helps.
Thanks Shazza, I will look into that. I don't mind spending bit of extra money if it works so will look that treatment from Clinique up.
Can understand how your son feels, its not nice when you get a flare up and especially when you feel people are pointing it out and making a big deal of it, makes it worse.

Hi Beaniesq,
Not got too much joy at the doctors but my regular GP was off sick so just got a stand in, she suggested Aqueous BP cream for the keratosis pilaris and said this may help with the flushes too but she couldn't see any reason why i was getting the flushing. In the meantime I went to the beauty counter in Boots & chatted to a lady there and she has got me to try Boots No 7 Skin Redness Relief and am also taking omega 3 as you suggested. Don't want to get too excited but have used the No 7 and supplements for past few days and have noticed Im not getting so flushed so hopefully its working.
Will give these a go for a few weeks and see if I continue to see results and then hopefully can see my regular GP whenever she is back from illness too.

I have the exact same problem. I'm post menopausal and used to get hot flushes, then i didn't get them for ages, now they are back. I've just got back from a pilates session and i walk there. I always get comments, like you have already warmed up etc. I thought it might be niacin flush but stopped taking anything with that in because some people are sensitive even at low doses. Even when i don't flush i can see the capillaries under the skin. I've started taking maca root. This is supposed to balance and nourish the whole endocrine system. I was trying to find a cream and came across this website, so will try that boots anti redness cream that has been mentioned. People are so insensitive. It really does impact on your life. People think you are blushing with embarrassment don't they. I have to push myself to go out and do normal things, because i fear flushing. It can become a phobia if you let it though. I know what you mean about you can be sitting on your own or in my case talking to my husband, and the flush comes, so its not embarrassment, but can turn to that, if people keep pointing it out. I try to ignore it. I'm going to take driving lessons, but fear flushing so the cream might make me feel more confident and not so self conscious
Carterb,
I forgot to ask. How old are you? I forgot to say, i am also getting it on my arms. I take omega 3 anyway, and hasn't made any difference to me. I also get little bleeds in my hand, fingers. I suddenly get a purple mark, as if something has burst. Do you get that? I'm frightened i have some arterial problem. The only things that come up is rosacea or menopausal flush when i google. Rosacea can start with flushing apparently. I believe that is an inflammation problem.I hope it is a hormonal thing, that can be fixed. I also read Flax seeds for flushing, that is where the omega 3 comes from i suppose. I'm determined to get to the bottom of this. Hope you have better luck when you see your own doctor.
