I realise it's only a test version but can I ,& if so how , just download Windows 7 from here & have it on my Vista system ?

Download the file, use CD burning software to write the ISO to a CD and install it the same as you would any other version of windows

You did see the bit at the bottom of your link that says The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours.

I wouldn't install it on a main computer at all, if you have a spare one use that!

put it on your main machine with virtual pc I've used virtual PCs for ages ... a risk free way of having a play

I had been thinking about that AC but that's a BETA as well
The virtual PC is a beta, but it's beta software that you can simply uninstall, unlike the beta of windows 7 which would be a real pain to remove if you were to do a proper install of it on your computer.

you want the standalone 2007 version which has been around since ..... well 2007!

it doesn't Vista home premium under supported operating systems though , would it still be OK?
it worked for me

I prefer vmware - it supports more hardware - been using it for years .... but 2007 will run the os with standard setup
