As it takes 16 weeks to train a new fireman and there are many applicants, would it be possible to have a complete overhaul with 50,000 fresh firefighters in 4 months time?

We hear a lot about all the applicants, but we don't hear what percentage of them are acceptable. There are standards or fitness aptitude etc that must be met.

But lets say there are enough and all the existing firefighters are sacked and replaced with trainees. Who puts out the fires during the four months they are training. Who trains them?

US President Reagan sacked all the US airtraffic controllers after a strike. Replacements were trained by military controllers who managed the system during training. There were some near misses, and fewer aircraft could be handled, but I suppose you could say it was some sort of success.

But after all that training, once they start the job, whats the betting they'll realise they need a payrise?
I think if that happened then we may see the current firefighters going on a four month strike.
