My doctor refused me cortizone injections..........said they were painful, caused skin damage, and only had a 50% success rate. He put me on anti-inflammatory tablets which worked, but it took 18 months to clear up....
I have ongoing tennis elbow from my job playing the piano all day. I bought a tennis elbow strap from Bootsm which you wear just below your elbow joint. It takes a little while to work but REALLY does work, and is far better than having to have injections, if you can sort it this way.
crisgal i have had tennis elbow in both arms, the 1st time about 25 yrs ago, The 2nd about 2 yrs later & after 3 cortisone injections in each one my G.P refared me to an orthopaedic surgeon who recomended an operation to ''release the tendon slightly'' & Touch wood i have had no problems since... Hope this helps you
Livepoolfoo....you seem to have drawn the short straw as in 95 % of cases tablets or injections settle the condition down, only in the remainong 5% of cases is surgery required.
When I got tennis elbow I actually did play tennis, and like Scarlett also used an elbow strap which did help. A few years later I got golfers elbow...........I've never played golf?
thanks everyone - it's not for me it's for my step mum.
She has gone anti-inflammatory pills and cream from dr but is really suffering.
Injections certainly wern't mentioned by the dr. Maybe he's going to see if the meds work first.
The strap thing seems like a good idea too.
I've had housemaids knee once or twice but never picked up a duster in my life ha ha lol. Don't like to spoil womens work.... Aaawwwwccccchhhhhhhhh. Don't worry thats just her-in-doors slapping me. Seriously though i hope things turn out ok for your step mum & good luck
its interesting reading all your answers because I was diagnosed with TE about six months ago but so far have not been offered anything other than physio which hasnt helped. Its starting to get better now but its taken all of this time. Its still sore but my mobility is much better now and its nowhere near as painful. Didnt realise it would take six momths tho to start to heal.
