If you've not got 'parental responsibility' you can't stop your ex from taking your son out of the country irrespective of whether it's for a short holiday or for ever.
You will have parental responsibility if
(a) you were married to your son's mother at the time of his birth ; or
(b) your child was born was born (in England or Wales) on or after 01/12/03 and you jointly registered the birth with your partner ; or
(c) you've entered into a formal parental responsibility agreement with your son's mother ;
(d) you've been granted a parental responsibility order by a court.
If you've got parental responsibility, your ex can't take your son out of the country without your permission (even for a day) unless she has a residence order. If she has a residence order she can take him out of the country for up to one month at a time without needing your permission.

By the sound of it i do have parental responsability, and the reason i don't want her to take him is he's only 2 and i think that egypt is a bit far for someone his age, plus she is going with her friend (female) and no other males so i don't feel that my son will be safe, (she's already told me that she will leave him with her friends family while they go out) as this family live out there i don't know them and there fore don't trust them with my boy. Also when i asked can i take him down my caravan for a weekend i was told "no chance".
'plus she is going with her friend (female) and no other males so i don't feel that my son will be safe,'
Please, you must explain why? I spat my coffee out when I read it. You think your son will be safer with you? Why? Is he less likely to ........... well, I dont know what actually. Your argument for her not taking him is ludsicrous. 1000 of parents, single and married, take their 2 year old's abroad
Maybe when you were told no chance your ex thought your son would not be safe with you in the caravan?

Pink kittens, either you don't have children, or you are an idiot if you think that leaving a child with a family that you have never met and live abroad is ok. and as for her thinking that he wouldn't be safe with me in the caravan, its not to far from her so she could visit, and his grandmother and cousins and auntie would be there, so guess again
Ah well I have been called worse
Did you not detect the sarcasm on my post? If your son is not safe with 2 females why would he be safe with you and your partner?
I;m in agreement with Bean, what wonderful grown up parents your son has - I can't be bothered to try and get to the bottom of your problem anymore
