Did anyone see the BBC3 prog on Gang Dogs last nite?

It was quite frankly, horrific. You have to feel for the Vets at the Harmsworth who see this on a DAILY basis! What is this country coming to that we can allow such torture of animals by moronic brain dead idiots. If you didn't see it, you were lucky. The poor dog that was covered in constant cigarette burns and had his ear kicked off! Poor mite didn't know what day it was. I actually feel sick writing this but have to get it off my chest. What did anyone else think? ES

you have to consider that this is probably the best time ever for animals amongs us, with the domestication and care of pets etc. people today treat pets like a member of the family.
bear baiting was a popular sport in england unitl the 19th c, can you imagine that? also in the middle ages england used donkeys, bulls, horses, leopards, lions, monkeys, tigers and elephants for baiting - victorians quite liked this. It was a public sport where the animals were tied to a stake and dogs set upon them.

I don't see that argument makes it ok to sit back and accept it. The dog fighting for instance - that has been going on for years and still goes on, We are in 2009 now, not the dark ages. The vet showed the poor staffy cross that had been left 36 hours after its throat had been ripped to pieces ..1866? No 2009. The police say they haven't the resources to deal with the problem, perhaps some government expenses could pay for another few police departments to handle it. Just because there are responsible dog owners, doesn't mean the government can turn their back on the 100's of abused dogs. I am sure the vet would agree.
eyeshade- Ankou wasn't defending these thugs, far from it! He or she was just making a point to your comment "what is this country coming to".
As it is, if caught, the people are punished (though not severely enough in my opinion), a couple of hundred years ago treatment like this to any animal wouldn't have even caused the slightest kerfuffle, indeed it was probably seen as normal.
Luckily now, we do live in a society that frowns upon such deplorable behavior, and there are laws that protect animals- it's just a terrible crying shame that scum don't seem to care (probably back to my not severe enough punishment comment) and still behave like this.
Anyhoo...back to your original post- no I didnt watch it. I cannot bring myself to watch programmes like this, I just get too upset over them.

I saw it eyeshade, I was absolutley appaulled, I was going to type the same question last night just to let rip and get it off my chest aswell but I felt to sick after watching it! I agree with everything you've said, that poor dog, ALL them poor dogs!
What they should do is drop their dogs off at the RSPCA ect and just fight each other to the death so the country could get rid of scum like this.
And what a good job the interviewer did because I would of just floored that cretin in the baseball cap (the one that said you just have to keep slapping the dog) he was talking to! What a complete moron, he had my blood boiling when he was telling the story about his mate dropping the rabbit over the park fence as a present for his dog!
arghhhh........going to put the kettle on now, I shaking again with fury....
