Hello. I'm really interested in working in france, perhaps for a year or maybe longer. I know basic French but really want to develop it over the next few years. I'd love to be fluent one day.

Does anyone have any advice about how I can go about starting this?

It isn't easy finding work at the moment in France just like anywhere. The only thing to do is to apply for jobs and see what happens. All depends on what you want to do. If working as a waitor/waitress or similar job could be an option you could have a good chance especially in tourist areas where they need people who speak English. Quite a few more wealthy parents look out for English au pairs so their kids pick up English easily. However, being an au pair can be a lonely existance and you might not improve your French!
Going to French conversation classes for foreign students when in France is a good idea as you meet up with people from all nationalities;

I'm 20 and I'm in medical school, just finished first year so this whole thing will be a LONG long long long way off! I was thinking even a 6 week placement. Certainly no children to worry about as yet haha.

Thank you for the answers!
