They're sophisticated machines and don't go wrong very often. I'm not sure why your superior is going to all this effort, though. Can't you just get the people who gave you the free samples to confirm that they were just that?
I am surprised that you are not bound my a condition that all 'freebies' have to be registered with the possibility of them being sent back if the management do not feel they are appropriate.
Personally I would contact your personnel department and ask for some clarification. I am amazed that you are being forced to take a test, I believed these were voluntary and certainly would not be submissable in court if you were made to take it under duress.
As far as I know, these tests work on the theory that when you are lying, you sweat more and become more 'twitchy', you heart rate increases etc and they pick up on and measure these things. They do a few 'test' questions to start with, they ask your name, age and things like that, questions you wouldn't lie about. They then measure these reponses aginst the responses you give to the 'proper' questions.
If you DO get these items as freebies and are therefore not lying when they ask you this, the readings should be the same (no increase in heart rate/perspiration) so you should have no problem
Well this sounds painful but might work: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=761365
I believe that anything that keeps up tension in your body will corrupt the result. even wiggling your toes in your shoes so that no one knows you are doing it can help...
Hi Bobk
I am a qualified polygraph examiner, I run tests such as this every day. The only advice I can give you is tell the truth. If you did nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about. If you need help to "Beat" the test then you cannot be telling the truth?, if this is the case you have a problem.
A modern polygraph test using the latest techniques with a trained examiner will pick up movement and countermeasures, don't risk it.
Good luck with your problem.
