cocker spaniel with hard sore belly??help.

My cocker spaniel has this and im unsure whats causing it, i only noticed it when she was lying on her back and i rubbed her belly and she let out a small yelp and wouldnt let me touch it again. It feels quite solid down the bottom of her abdomen.

Its definitely not constipation, as she is still doing her business in my garden everyday.

Shes not been neutured as we were hoping to breed her in the future, but surely this couldnt be a pregnancy related thing as that wouldnt make their bellys painful to touch, would it??

Has anybody any idea of what this could be?

Surely you know whether she has been mated or not? If there is any chance she is pregnant you should not be prodding her tummy.

I would be getting her checked by the vet, in case it is an internal lump or blockage, or it could be a hernia.

If she has any sort of discharge other than the normal season, then you must get her to a vet quickly, as it could be pyometra, which can be fatal if left untreated.

I dont think she has mated however there is a very small chance she might have as my mother's dog is an un-neutared collie and they were in the garden together very briefly. Unfortunately my mother never thought when she let them out together.

Ive not been prodding her belly at all, i was stroking her belly which she usually loves when i noticed it.

I will be getting her to the vets. Just wanted a bit of advice in the meantime as i only noticed this tonight and was quite concerned. Ive not noticed any discharge, shes white so this would be very easy to notice so luckily there is none of that, also her behaviour hasnt changed, shes still hyper active, and happy and seems to be eating and drinking.

How old is she?

Was she in season when they were let into the garden together?

If she has any change in behaviour (eg becomes quiet/depressed) or goes off her food get her to the vet immediately, pyometra can have these symptoms and as lankeela says it can be life threatening.

Got an appointment with the vet this afternoon, hope its nothing serious thats wrong, shes still as mad as ever, running about and spinning round in circles like she does.

Oh well they think its a mastitis (think thats how u spell it) related thing.

Her temp etc is normal and vet said its not likely to be a cancerous thing as the swollen area isnt lumpy r anything and its not common in such a young dog.

No collie/spaniels on the way either!

She got an anti flamatory injection and antibiotics.
