with your very first wage packet?

As a child we were very poor. We were no different to most of the others in the street - there were seven children in the family and financial help wasn't available like it is now.

Anyhoo, we ate very little meat, couldn't afford it, so with my first wage packet I bought us a leg of lamb for a lovely roast dinner.

NB: That's not all I bought with it of course - it'd have been one hell of a big sheep!

I make mine by hand,got a breadmaker someplace but find it quicker to do it by hand can bake 3 loaves in same time as it takes to make 1 in bread maker,and it tastes nicer! I have always made bread, buy flour from local mill in 16 kilo bag, fresh yeast can't beat if. In the 1950's every Saturday morning i made 100 fishcakes to be sold in my mum's chip shop Saturday night. That was good i liked doing those!

hi mrsc. I was the youngest of 5 and ruines by my dad especially, so when I started work I was allowed to keep my wage packet as pocket money, was I for a shock when I got married in 1968, I didn't have a clue how to budget, used tell my mum and dad when I had a leccy or gas bill in and they used to pay it,,,,,,,,,,

40 yrs on I am the one in our marriage who does all of the finances, and taught my daughter well too, Bless 'em they did me no favours....x

First wage packet was from Sainsburys I had a Saturday job and bought my mum a huge bouquet which she complained about as she said I could have something more practical.... wish I'd bought a new top instead.

I didn't have a choice .I gave my mother my first wage packet and she gave me my bus fare for work the next day.That was a long time ago .I am now retired and how things have changed.And my first job was standing on the beetroot line at Baxters with a jug pouring the vinegar into the jars. Certainly not like it there now when I went back up there on holiday.
