Dead puppy

My friends dog has just been scanned ,the scan at only 4 weeks revealed one puppy which unfortunately is dead.Will she pass this naturally at the full term of pregnancy and when will she be back in season.The vet was a bit vague about questions she asked,thanks.

I am very concerned that you are already asking when she will be back in season. The poor thing hasn't even aborted the present dead foetus yet!
Did you really think the bitch would carry the dead pup to full term, or was this your friend's thought?
If the Vet was vague about any answers you(r friend) asked, ask again and again until you understand. Perhaps the Vet thought that your friend might not be the ideal person to be breeding dogs.

I would have though the vet would have given the bitch an injection of oxytocin to help her pass the puppy. It is possible it might be reabsorbed but it is extremely unlikely it would be carried to full term as it would begin to rot and cause problems for the bitch. How sad for the bitch, still at least your friend still has her (provided she passes or reabsorbs the puppy). Dog breeding is not as easy as some people think and unless you are prepared to risk losing your bitch then you should think again before attempting it.

I hope your friend leaves the poor dog to recover fully first, Polly.
It seems odd to me that the vet didn't answer any questions fully though.

Thanks everyone,yes it does seem heartless to me that she should be thinking of breeding again so soon.I will tell her to go to the vet and get her sorted.
