Planet X

A friend of mine insists an object called planet X has been discovered that will pass close to the earth in 2012 and was predicted by the Mayans -not that that is a guarantee of accuracy. Some say will cause disruption to the earth. My answer was its as likely as Schiaparellis canals on mars.
There may be dangerous objects in space, but I am not convinced by the planet X scenario. Any comments for or against this?
