My experience has always led me to suspect the existence of some scientific law: the less I want a prize, the higher my probability of winning it. I'm going to pass this month...

I must admit to being slightly underwhelmed by the prize as well. I will do the puzzle anyway for the exercise. It is not that hard this month. Except for 7D which is causing me enough problems to think there may be an error in it. The clue and grid suggest 12 letters but the only solution I can find that makes any sense has 13 letters. I would welcome any comments

QM, your experience would certainly make sense if others felt the same way as you - the puzzle would attract a low entry and the chances of winning would increase.

at least I can solve a crossword tonight that has proper clues!

I accept the answer is correct but am unsure how it works.
Sources i have checked give 'Kings Mountain' as 'Mons Regius'. How does this become the answer?
