Hi. I'm on haringey housing register with 80 points. Me & my husband are trying for a baby but are scared that we won't get enough points to get a place for us once I'm pregnant. We can't afford to buy! Does anyone know how many points you get when you have a new baby and how fast it takes to get a place? Please help. Can't bring up a baby in a rented studio...

why not??
and if you truely can't bring up a baby in a rented studio, don't have one. Contraception is free.
You are being a bit harsh in your answer Bednobs. Here is a married couple who want children. There are lots of girls that have more and more kids just to get free housing.
Good luck Angelina
in my opinion, i am not being harsh. What is up with having a baby in a rented studio? Millions of parents have done it, in bedsits, rooms, studios. i don't really understand all this "now now now" attitude. If your circumstances are not right (for you) to have a baby then don't have one! If you want to bring a baby up in a house, then get a house first. if you don't have many points fr social housing then it's because you are not needy enough, and it's madness to put yourself in more need in the hope that it helps isn't it?
if this poster is struggling with a studio, what will it be like when one of the couple cant work because they are having a baby? You still have to pay for housing association/council places
Your best bet is to go to the council, and ask how it works.

I don't know if there is anything about it on their website.

But I have to agree with Bednobs, it is better to get somewhere first and then have a baby. But good luck.
How old are you Angelina?

Bednobs you are a bit harsh you know. I'm 30 years old and trying to do it the right way. Unlike some teenagers getting knocked up for a council flat... Not sure how to bring up a kid in a studio. There is hardly any room for the 2 of us! And the comment about contraception is out of order. Get back to me when you grow up.
Thanks for your support wendilla :)
Claim your pregnant already & see your doc - he can recommend larger housing for you both.

Failing that, wear a burkha when visiting Housing Dept.
rent somewhere privately!

if you cant afford that then you cant afford to have a baby
I don't think Bednobs was harsh, you're question does read like you want a baby but can not really afford to or are not in the right 'position' to have one.

Why rush? Wait until your happy with your home set up and then try for one?
Personally, I find your comment to bednobs 'Get back to me when you grow up' out of order. It's you who needs to 'grow up'. Having a baby is nothing to do with how many points you get for having it. If you can't afford it or can't/wont make the sacrifices then dont have the child. But, of course, that's not what you want to hear is it?
just because you claim to be pregnant or your doctor recommends a bigger place, dosen't mean you'll get it - the council cant give you something they dont have. People in 1 bedroom council places have 2 or three children, and these people would have more points that you, there are people who are in b and b accomodation with actual kids who will have more points than you. It dosen't really matter if you are 30 or 20 or 16, if the time isn't right because of your circumstances then it isn't right. of yu feel your circumstances aren't right to have kids, don't rely on the council to change them, change them yourself.
