Why is it necessary to have so many `americanisms` in a British newspaper?
For example 10a today - EVENFULL
The GK also suffers.

I believe the answer was "evenfall", which is defined in Webster's as:

E"ven*fall` , n. Beginning of evening. "At the quiet evenfall." Tennyson.

Hard to see how it can be an Americanism if Tennyson used it.

Sorry. Typing error, meant EVENFALL which I could only find in an American dictionary.
I blame it all on the hot weather or on MPs expenses.
It is in Chambers and is defined as "early evening, twilight".
tankardking, the DT is testing your whole knowledge. I doubt you realise that dr b has replied from the USA!
Well, I am interested to hear that dr b is in USA. Minnesota? Just wondered as have a penfriend there. We have been corresponding since we were 12 - and both over 70 now! And we have met up!
